A summer school on degenerate fermi gases has been organised in Italy: the "Enrico Fermi summer school", at Varenna, on Lake Commo. Rob, Jeff and I are going. Great !

But first, a week end in Florence, with Emmanuelle. Nice city, a bit hot but definitely worth the while.

The Enrico Fermi summer is one of the most famous summer schools for young physicist. It is held in the little Italian town of Varenna, on the shore of lake Commo. This is an absolutly gorgious place. The town itself is very small with nice little steep streets going down from the road to the shores of the lake. The lake is surrounded by mountains that go up to 2500m. And the lectures are held in the old "villa Monastera", an old monaster converted to a villa and now belonging to the Italian physical society (you can see it on the picture above).
We had some great lectures given by the big cheese of our community (and some less great lectures). The atmosphere was very laid back.
During the week end I went up the Grignone with a few other physicists.
I didn't take much picture of the lectures but don't let yourself be misslead by the pictures, we did work and tlak about physics a lot, and I am back with a lot of new ideas.
